As women, we naturally have a unique system and make-up that is also accompanied by a unique set of health conditions and concerns. From our natural system functions (i.e. menstruation, cramps, hot flashes, and all that these encompass) to problems and/or disorders such as yeast infections, endometriosis and everything in between not only call for the need for effective remedies but also require a certain care in maintaining a delicate ph balance. There are a number of essential oils that can help with many of these health problems and as I’m sure you can imagine, the possibilities and combinations are truly endless! But don’t worry, we’re just going to look at a few essential oils that have become popular with women due to the support and balancing they possess for women’s overall health and well-being.
Lavender, Bulgarian (Lavandula angustifolia) essential oil is probably one of THE most widely used oils in aromatherapy and has proven itself to be a gentle but effective method of treatment for a wide variety of problems. Lavender can be used specifically to treat headaches and sleep problems associated with the menopause, back pain, painful periods, cystitis, and even cracked nipples associated with pregnancy. Lavender oil is gentle enough to be used in almost any situation but individual circumstances may vary.
Geranium essential oil (Pelargonium graveolens)has marvelous therapeutic uses that range from treating endometriosis, painful periods, fatigue, tender breasts, cracked nipples (in pregnancy) and pressure sores. Geranium oil makes an effective remedy for urinary tract infections, sore throat, oral ulcers and yeast infections. Also as a natural phlebotonic, Geranium can relieve hemorrhoids, varicose veins and excessive menstrual bleeding. Not only is Geranium oil an all around particularly useful oil for women but it also tends to be more economical then some other oils….and what woman doesn’t love that?! There are different types of chamomile essential oils used in aromatherapy, however, Roman Chamomile essential oil (Chamaemelum nobile) is the most popular essential oil due to its gentle effectiveness. Roman Chamomile is wonderful for use in treating dry skin, acne, stress, irritability, irregular periods, fatigue, headaches and insomnia.
Clary Sage essential oil (Salvia sclarea) is used by women in aromatherapy to treat mature skin problems, for teenage hair care, stress, endometriosis, fatigue, depression, varicose veins and poor circulation. However, do not use clary sage essential oil during pregnancy and do not confuse with common sage (Salvia officinalis) essential oil.
